scholarship meltdown

i’ve been working my ass off trying to get all my scholarship applications in by next week! i’m looking all over the place, but being a middle-class white girl, i’ve been denied in the past literally every single time i’ve applied. they seem to expect my parents to pay for it… hello! i’m 27 and live 3,500 miles from them. my parents haven’t financially supported me in 9 years!!!!! and just because i make decent money now doesn’t mean i want to work full-time at a professional job for the rest of my academic career!!! i won’t even live in this state anymore! don’t they realize that most people don’t need 3 years to get through city college!!??!?? COME ON!!!!

i’m going to be a teacher, for chrissakes!! where’s the love?

any suggestions on a good website/resource for someone like me? the financial aid people laughed in my face. sure, a third of my annual gross income is totally expendable. they could probably tell by my ‘96 jetta, leaking antifreeze all over the place (thank god i got skipped on the smog check this year!) that i have just piles of cash to toss around. douchebags.

aaarrrrggghh! i’m so frustrated!!!!

i’m gonna start a collection plate… lol :)

Sorry about that, but you’re not alone. Why not try overseas scholarship. Depending on your nationality and expertise, you could try Fullbright, Australia or Britain. God bless!

    Where are you moving?

  3. thanks, guys- i’ve considered international, but am planning to go to alaska… they consider residents of pacific border states as honorary residents, resulting in lower tuition. so for a little less than i would pay to attend cal state, i can have a much more interesting experience! :)
i’ll probably end up getting loans, but have grad school to consider, too. maybe i can go international for that? i’ll look into the fullbright… i have excellent transcripts and a 4.0, but that doesn’t seem to be enough since i work and am only involved in two volunteer activities. it’s insane.
