why wouldn’t i think of that!?
i haven’t been sick for two months… i’m apparently allergic to “glacial silt“.

wow… update??
it’s been like a year since i’ve written! ugh!!!
okay, so still in alaska… looking forward to moving back to california this summer (a year early)… looking VERY forward to it! i’m cold and bored and the education i’m receiving is laughable at best.
that being said, please check out http://heiferukraine.wordpress.com/ – it’s a blog i set up for my international studies/geography class. try to leave your location on the map… but it probably won’t work, so post a comment with your locaation and if i ever get the thing to work, i’ll add it in!! ;)
anyway, i’m anxiously awaiting summer and temperatures above 30. turns out i’m not exactly cut out for living in the ‘burbs! we’ve got more sunlight though, so that’s nice! and i’m looking forward to driving the alcan this summer!!

i’m terribly lazy…
haven’t had a day “off” since the beginning of january, and it’s starting to show. big time. help me!!!!
1. go here: http://heiferukraine.wordpress.com/
2. sign the platial map
3. help us buy a pig!!! (in a day or two, when i get it set up ;))
this is a blog i’m running as an informative project for a geography course. thank you!!!!

what a maroon…
i just ordered a SAD light… which i am so unbelievably excited about since i’m already going nuts… and realized i paid last month’s credit card bill with the old bank account i forgot to close, causing an overdraft. i don’t remember seeing “sheer idiocy” on the list of symptoms… but check it out, it’s pretty badass & has negative ion therapy, too!
10.24.07
actually…
now it’s snowing! my fear of living under constant, secret influx of petrochemicals has been corrected. talk about instant gratification!
snow fairy?
so this is the second morning in a row, third morning total, that i’ve woken up to snow. however, i have yet to see it come down… i’m beginning to wonder if the snow fairy is crapping on us silently in the night, or if we’re just under the crop-dusting flightpath?
we’re down to like 9 hours of sunlight a day.. which sounds pretty normal- but trust me, it isn’t!!!!! i need a sunlight machine and a tanning bed, stat!

ketchup!

well since i’m clearly never going to have the time to write in detail about alaska and all the beautiful, fun, and (obviously) time-consuming things i’ve been doing and seeing, i’ll list a wrap-up ;)
during the slice of summer i had here, i hiked little o’malley:

went to whittier, explored the abandoned hospital and was chased by the cops:

found potter’s marsh:

went to the museum:

saw two moose:
{no photo available}
saw beluga whales:

{not an actual whale}
fell down, hit head, bruised bones, made friends at local er:
{thankfully, no photo available}
painted a spiderman:

additionally, the trailer for the moonlit road was finished! i’ll post that separately.

i went back to l.a. in the beginning of september to work on my sweetheart’s film (i’ll post separately about that too)…

and i swear to god it was summer when i left– though i needed my coat! i got back and there was termination dust on the mountains and a bitter effin chill in the air!
i woke up to a snowy ground the other morning:

bijou stopping dead in his tracks to figure out what’s on the ground
and this morning it was 18 degrees. my ass (literally) has been cold for about three weeks, i find it perfectly acceptable to wear uggs 24/7, and i’ve taken to slathering my wind-bitten nostrils with vaseline four times a day!!! it’s gonna be a long winter!
school is absolutely insane!! i was trying to be a superhero and take five classes… what a moron. never again! if i make it through this semester alive, it will be a miracle! working 3 or so days a week was also a mistake!!
i saw the northern lights!!!! from my backyard, through heavy fog… but still!!!!!!!!!!!! i almost shit myself!
fabien got into the anchorage film festival- YAY!! so he’ll be here for that, and emma and dan may come as well!! there will be a mob of alaskans and angelenos at the giant ice wall!
okay, more later… but now i must go plug in my jeep. how do i know if the heater’s on?

p.s. sign of acclimation: mom and dad are getting me auto-start for christmas… and it may just be the best christmas ever!!!!!

busy lady!
i promise to get some photos up soon!! been busy with work, and catching up on some sleep!! plus, my internet is less than reliable- and loading photos is a royal pain in the kiester.
meanwhile, here are a few things i’ve learned so far:
1. crosswalks and red lights are more of a suggestion than a law.
2. 55 degrees is appropriate tank-top weather.
3. everything comes with mayonnaise. everything.
4. non-alaskan americans either live in the lower 48 (which makes sense) or “back in the states”… which makes little sense.
;)

up…date…
so i’m blog-lazy… but have been busy with other stuff!
got a car and started driving all over the place to check out the town! then i got a waitressing job… should’ve waited another week– i was hired and started the next morning!
then i cut off my fingernail and all skin underneath it in a freak watermelon-cutting accident. so basically, things are back to normal! lol!
eventually i’ll post more photos, but the finger thing makes typing difficult. and that, my friends, is a good excuse!! ;)

look out, anchorage!!
i’ve arrived! it’s beautiful!!
leaving lax, though… first, they said my carry-on was too big (the same carry-on i’ve been carrying on for the past 7 years without incident). then bijou escaped from his carrier and took off into the airport. thankfully, i’d doubled his dose of doggie valium, so he was pretty easy to catch ;)
then the airline bitches made me buy a new carrier for him!! they said he has to stand up and turn around. seriously. the dog is heavily sedated and sleeping!!! come on!! additionally, the carrier they made me buy was barely 3 inches longer than the other one. that’s right- longer, not taller.
they had to hold the plane for an hour because of this. i’ve never felt like more of an ass! though, as i trudged my way back to row 45 (yes, the LAST row!), everyone who’d seen the bijou/airline bitches exchange offered their condolences. i was worried i’d be mobbed!!
the flight over was good- they played the last mimzy, which i didn’t get the headphones for, but looked pretty awful even without sound.
since we flew due north and left around 8:30 pm, it appeared as if the sun was setting for 4.5 hours!

it got dark for a little while, but just before we got to anchorage, it looked like morning… at midnight! there was a heavy cloud cover, so that’s all i could photograph as we came in!

there’s been a lot of rain! but last night, i was waiting for my roommate to pick me up from the grocery store and was treated to this at 9 pm:

and just cos it’s cute, here’s bijou looking out our front door!

today, we’re going for a hike! yay!

getting back on (or off) the horse
so last margarita thursday, i smashed my big toe in the congo line. didn’t think much of it, since i do this kind of shit all the time.
however, later i realized it was all bloody. typical me, but i was still a little surprised. even later i dropped a case of water on it, and on further inspection, saw that it had split in half with a nice little hook to the left. sweet.
after a few days of clever hello kitty bandaging (and about 45 toe stubbings), i gave up and went to the nail place to get it filled. it feels weird because i’m not the type of girl who gets her nails done at all, and i just stubbed it again. so now it hurts.
i’m really afraid i’m going to break the whole thing!!! oh dear. i’m also scared of infection, so i’ve been dousing it in alcohol and peroxide. it’s like my little science-fair volcano.
regardless, the four-day celebratory bash i’m about to embark upon will include more congo-lining!! and perhaps nicer shoes than the flip-flops i’ve been living in. ;)

meditation 24 june
they say there’s no place like home. when i was a kid, i didn’t know there was any other place but home.
–
so… very… lame
i swear i’ve not dropped off the edge of the earth!
just insanely busy wrapping up l.a. life… you know how it goes!! gearing up for vegas next weekend (MUCH NEEDED!!!), getting close to finishing the moonlit road and closing in on my last few days at work. woooohoooo!
things are really coming together for alaska!! i’ve been awarded another scholarship, so i’m really gonna quit bitching about how i never get anything from the man! lol!
soon, i’ll post my ohio photos. i PROMISE!! and maybe a margarita thursday shot will make it in, too, so those of you in the loop who still haven’t gone can see what you’re missing ;)
p.s. while waiting during a calltime lag, i tripped upon a wonderful johnny gem: personal file. it has not one, but FOUR alaska songs. i love!
